A time for humility and action

While we've won the election there is still a great deal of work to do to put this country on a healthy, sustainable path for the future.  We need to model the kind of behavior we'd want all our children & grandchildren to follow.  We must make the most of this opportunity.  Use this checklist to make plan to move forward.

1. Don't gloat - just smile.

It's natural to celebrate. We did win after all. But there's no reason to be rude about it.  Meanwhile, do not forget the lesson of who people showed you they were. Make a concerted effort to let go of the anger so we can move forward with dignity.

2. Thank our allies.

Our coalition is powerful.  Don't destroy it with petty behavior or meaningless credit distribution. We win, and lose, as a team. Our diverse talents are what can keep us a powerful, effective force for forward movement in this country.

3. Don't be distracted. Results will be certified.

Whatever noise is in the system right now about the results is to be expected.  Don't be distracted.  Our elections were fair and our votes were counted.  We must work harder to prevent foreign interference, propaganda and false information on social media.  We must protect the truth.

4. Remember the pandemic. Wear a mask.

There are many who aren't here to celebrate with us because the pandemic has taken their lives. Many more struggle daily with the long term health & economic impacts of this virus.  Wear a mask and let's test, trace & prevent the further spread of this deadly disease.

5. Remember George Floyd and all the others.

George Floyd was still brutally murdered in this country.  We've seen countless more examples of police brutality. We must work at local levels to right these injustices and protect people of color from brutality, corruption and a lack of equality in the justice system.

6. Require accountability.

Corruption, grift, greed and a blatant disregard for the law was an epidemic in the Trump administration and family.  Let's unite our voices to demand accountability from those "leaders" who attempted to destroy our institutions.  Accountability is not revenge.  It is justice returning to the forefront of our democracy.  While we're at it we should enact protections that ensure none of this skullduggery can happen again.

7. Volunteer. Donate.

From the run off in Georgia to the local committees on police reform to supporting the front line heroes of our healthcare workers there are many places we can be useful. Let's focus on being of service for the greater good.  Donate to organizations that will continue the fight.
